I enjoyed this book even more than the first one! This author's insights into the behaviors of her complex and interesting characters really grabs me, as does her exploration of the nature of our sexual preferences. It gets me thinking about how we view such preferences as a society, and I love a romance that can get me to think! The surprising development of Kokiri's wife, Diana, was especially fun to read. The intense, explosive nature of what happens between her and her husband provides a very satisfying contrast to the tender eroticism of Alexis and Anthony's relationship. I feel like the first book was almost like a set up for this one so that it could dive deeper into the ideas that the first one only begins to touch.

I also like the introduction of Tom and Samantha in this book, and I look forward to reading about their journey together in book three!

As a follow up to Painful Deliverance, Ms. Pratley delivers. This story continued the journey of Alexis, Anthony and Lincoln while giving us a new perspective into the repercussions of Lincoln and Alexis's relationship from the POV of Lincoln's wife Diana! I loved her addition to the story's dynamic that of a scorned, powerful woman struggling to come to terms with her husband's betrayal and her own awakening to her sexual needs and wants.

The obsessive nature of Lincoln was evident through the majority of the book and kept the tension of the story just right, balancing the calm new life Alexis has been building and keeping the reader engaged. By the end of the story, things wrap up nicely with no cliffhangers, but certainly room for more should the author wish to bring us back at a later date.
Darkness of Heart Painful Deliverance Book Two is by Ann M. Pratley. It is an interesting book that continues the investigation into the world of BDSM. It is also a romance that goes through various stages of problems. It is definitely not a book that should be read lightly nor for an underage reader. It is a book of courage, the courage to leave everything you know behind, the courage to change, the courage to face your fears, and the courage to face the unknown. Although at times I wanted to put the book down, I continues reading it and in the end am glad I did.
Alexis has fled to a small town outside Melbourne, Australia. She had fled from Lincoln KoKiri, a wealthy businessman who had taken an unhealthy liking to her. She had finally fled the possessiveness and dominance of him and had encountered Anthony who gave her a place to stay and start healing. He was hurting himself and she helped him start healing. She moved to a nearby town to work in a grocery store and to start her life on her own, although when he could, Anthony came to visit and their friendship grew into a romance. Just when she thought things were working out, Lincoln came to the grocery store and made himself known to her. What was she to do?
Lincoln knew he wanted Lexi back and after she ran away, he told the police she was abducted. He tried for a long time to find her and finally did. Now he could get her back and continue to love her. However, his marriage was breaking up and he didn’t want that to happen either. Was his wife, Diane, the woman he thought she was? Could he have both women?
Throw in a few more twists and surprises and you have a very unusual but interesting book.
