I was recently introduced to The Chronicles of Kale by a friend and devoured the first book in the series, so when I finished I followed eagerly with The Chronicles of Kale: Dawn of Retribution. Aya Knight does a wonderful job of continuing on the series, weaving a tale of fantasy, friendship, war and fantastically epic adventures.

Dawn of Retribution finds Kale (a dragon turned into human form) and his friends back into the heart of danger as a new foe emerges, causing problems and threatening them up close and from afar. Their journey sends them right into the heart of trouble as they travel on, pitting their skills and bravery against evil enemies that are just waiting for them to fail and stumble. The book really continues on worldbuilding as the plot thickens and the characters (especially Kale) are explored in new and more complex ways than in the first novel. The novel is fast paced with an exciting level of action and adventure, but it is balanced out with character building, emotion and drama as well.

Ms. Knight has a talent for writing that shines through in this series and her talent for crafting imaginative stories is spectacular. Overall, I continue to be a fan of this series and of the author, and I'll be eagerly waiting for the next book in the series.

Kale and his companions continue their journey with newer and more dangerous perils. I do love the story line as our favorite dragon takes on hero status, falls in love, fights to save the love of his life, and in the end with extraordinary abilities triumphs over evil.

The sand people were a unique addition, something fresh and new that I have not come across before.
I have enjoyed this book very much. A very captivating that will suck you in and hold til the end of the book and leave you with wanting more. So I will be looking for book 3 right now. I have to find out how this story ends.
The first novel introduced us to a host of characters led by Kale and his best friend Thomas as they traverse the world, avoid the bad guys and adapt to Kale's new life and friends.

The second puts us into the thick of the adventure, picking up shortly after Book 1 with some disastrous events taking place. With the lore in place and the character traits established, this novel keeps pushing along a great speed with very little downtime as we continue on the adventure.

I appreciated the fact that the characters continued on without a whole lot of recap or definition of characters that we already know. The action and adventure was swift with just the right amount of surprises and new characters being introduced. I'm eagerly awaiting the next installment of the series and this was a continuing step in the right direction!
enjoyed the Fantasy worlk of this book
The first story was enough to get me hooked, and this second installment, was an exciting improvement. New characters and sub plots are inserted, in a fluid style. I was happy to see a darker story than the first, although the younger readers need not be concerned. I hope the third story is as enjoyable as the first two.
I enjoy the premise of this series but putting it into action seems to have given Ms. Knight some trouble. The entire thing just felt a little stilted to me. It's still a good book but every time I got into a flow while reading something would jar me out of it. Also, some of the characters just seem to act strangely in this book. Admittedly that's probably because I as the reader had more information than the characters did but the way Neelan was acting toward the end of the book just sort of stumped me. I'm gonna throw a fit if there's any sort of love triangle going on in the third book. Especially after what the guy that seems to like her did to Neelan. Other than that I genuinely enjoyed this book and have enjoyed this series. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys this genre.
Aya Knight has good ideas for an entertaining story, but her writing needs work. The writing is uneven, leaving the impression that she is trying too hard to produce sophisticated prose but winds up with stiff, unlikely sentences that often contain grammatical errors. The book is riddled with poor word choices, and she often uses words that are completely incorrect, revealing a weak vocabulary. I get the impression she uses the thesaurus provided in her word processing program but does not follow up by checking word definitions and proper usage. She seems to have an aversion to appending the suffix "ed" to many verbs when they are necessary to form the past tense. Her characters are flat and the plot often overly simplistic. Though she has good ideas, Knight needs to flesh out her characters and work on plot development. While reading, I originally wondered how such writing errors escaped her editor's attention. I decided to check her out online and discovered she has formed a publishing company and publishes her own books. Even though I like Kale's story, I found it difficult to keep with it.
